External storage

Are there plans for external storage support, especially for devices that have external storage via a microSD? I have an ereader that has a small internal capacity but the external storage makes up for it. It runs on Android 11. I use it a lot when I travel but am limited on wifi/connectivity so I’d like to download all the books I’ll be using beforehand. I have a lot of pdfs and textbooks that are large files and would be nice to be able to download and save them to the external SD card to have on hand when I don’t have internet access.
